ABSTRACT

This study presents the peculiar organization of Olivetti's company, from the end of the second world war till the death of Adriano Olivetti, from the point of view of the intellectuals that worked in it, analizing how their work was influenced from the factory, and from the point of view of the company, whose "character" was positively defined by the unusual choice made by Adriano Olivetti to choose a management with humanistic education. The work of the artists called in Olivetti to realize the product design has also a great role: their innovative solutions made history, earning a place in museums all around the world, in a moment when, in Italy, the attention to industrial design was in its infancy. The organic vision underlies all the activities of the company and it is evident also in the design of the buildings used for the production: they have not only designed to be functional, but they are built on a human scale with respect of the environment, in dialogue and integration with it.
The trail is designed to support the following thesis: the lack of this kind of habitat today is an adverse condition for development of a value intellectual class from the new generations.
